All of my favorite flowers are hard at work right now.
Farm Drawings
Two little drawings from my Thursday art club at the farm. One has a human in it! I believe that’s the first person I’ve drawn in……years.
Horizon Pines
The tallest pines in our horizon line.
Fishin'
Cricket will fish and fish and fish and fish. Sometimes I have to go and pull her out of the water. Nothing else matters. Only. The. Fish.
Evening Locusts
Last light before the sun goes behind the mountain.
Downstream
Set up my little easel where the dogs get their mid-walk drink of water everyday.
Summer Grass, Evening Light
Where the front lawn meets the wild space.
Late Summer Bouquet
Gathered yesterday before the windy storm hit the garden.
Clouds Clouds Clouds
I spent all day yesterday drawing clouds. I’m hooked. These are all graphite on paper, 8x8 inches.
The next three I drew while a storm was rolling in right on top of me. I didn’t realize what was happening until my drawing buddy looked up and said, “uhhhh…we gotta go!” We didn’t move quickly enough and we got soaked. I have never experienced anything like it, after just 30 seconds of rain we both looked like we’d jumped into a lake. Luckily I’d thought ahead and brought a ziploc for my drawings!
Dahlia, Morning Light
The first of my very favorite Otto’s Thrill dahlias.
Windows, Doors, and a Jar
It’s been a week of drawing in other places. My mother’s window tucked into a thicket of lilacs. My brother’s tilty screendoor. And then, of course, some flowers.
Glow Pine
Yesterday my brother and his wife moved into their new house. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen ever. The sun sets behind this gigantic pine.
Bumble Balm
Today I set up the new easel and hung out in the garden with the bee balm and some of it’s many friends. I saw bumble bees (who kept bumbling into my hat,) hummingbird moths, actual hummingbirds, honey bees, swallowtail butterflies, wasps, itty bitty tiny native bees, and moths! What joy!
Here I go!
Howdy Everyone!
I’ve been pretty productive on the making artwork front and just the opposite on the sharing artwork front. SO. Time to work on those sharing muscles. Remember back in 2009 when I did a drawing a day? Well, I’m trying it again. I dunno how the sharing aspect/ blog bit is going to shake out, but I do know that I joined a site called dailypaintworks.com created by artist Carol Marine who also wrote the absolutely fantastic book Daily Painting: Paint Small and Often To Become a More Creative, Productive, and Successful Artist. All of my daily pieces will be for sale on my dailypaintworks site. The “shop” link on my website will take you there as well.
I learned so much when I was drawing daily and I’m looking forward to my painting and drawing skills improving as I practice making smaller work more often.
I’m starting with drawings to keep things a little simpler while I get my daily creating (and sharing) muscles back. However, there’s a brand spankin’ new plein air easel and a batch of little blank panels riding around in the back of a truck right now on their way to my house. I started teaching outdoor painting lessons to a friend and realized that painting outside is a great way to learn. It’s a practice that forces you to work fast— those clouds are not holding still for you, no matter how nicely you ask.
Anyway, Here I go!
This is a little collection of some of my favorite things I’ve made this month.
See you soon!
xo,
Maggie

I'm Still Here!
Hello Friends!
Firstly, I updated my website with a fresh layout and a lot of new work! Go see! Go see!
Now, for where I disappeared to: I spent the summer madly preparing for a show at the restaurant Hope & Olive, in Greenfield, MA (where I also waitress.) My goal was to create a new body of work and to reestablish my studio practice. I succeeded! It’s a funny experience to be working in the same place that my artwork is up in and I’ve very much enjoyed watching people leaning over other’s tables to get a better look.
Here are some shots of the show. It looks better in person, so please go visit it if you get the chance. It’s up through January.
Small Things, as they were, may be done for now. However, that doesn’t mean I’m done sending you drawings. Get ready for some different directions and maybe some peeks into my studio.
Thank you and I love you!
Maggie
